Hey blog buddies,

Its 2.30am & I am on the way back from the sets of Bidaai. Shoot was going on between Alek, Parul, Sarah, Kinshuk and Shlok who will be shooting through the night and into the morning.  Parul was recently eliminated from 'Jhalak' but inspite of that she was very normal and calm, but I know that it was just her exterior projection and the fact that she is sad and upset from within is not hidden from me. She is a very positive and optimistic girl. I admire her chirpy and bubbly nature, which keeps her going.  Since Parul had been quite overworked though recently, I am not stressing her too much and only after a while will I do the interview with her so that she will also be in a relaxed state.

Coming back to the show, the best part about Bidaai is that everyone is charged up & puts in their best for their respective scenes, no matter what time of the day it is! Angad has just got me so emotional in some of his recent scenes! Angad has been doing a brilliant job in the last few episodes, especially in the song. Hats off to our Bidaai team! I have always told them that the effort they put into the show will pay off ultimately.

And now a topic I have been noticing lately -  that of the resentment many have towards the couples of the show.  I have been a bit disappointed in the last few days with the comments on the blog.  It's a blog buddies, not a battlefield!  You are all welcome to voice your opinions but please don't be negatively aggressive and have futile debates.  Its fine to express a point of view but please don't debate over comments as everyone has the freedom of expression.  I have noticed the debate between Parul-Kinshuk Jodi fans and Sara-Angad jodi fans.  One point I want to make clear is that all four of these actors have contributed equally and are responsible for the success of the show collectively as a team.   Ragini and Ranvir's love story is incomplete without Sadhna and Alekh and visa versa.  There is no scope for politics amongst them and I am proud to say that all the artists share a healthy chemistry and are a dedicated team together!  The importance of certain characters may get side lined due to the demands of the script but please don't get upset.  Each character ultimately does get their due space ultimately in the entire script of the show!  If you fight on behalf on one couple against the other couple, then sorry to say, but then you're not a part of Bidaai!

Lastly, I have noticed a demand of actors as the leads as the leads of my new show.  They are brilliant actors with great caliber. Casting takes time!  The actor has to suit the character and fit in. When I find a role that fits one or both of the actors you all have mentioned, I will surely take your requests into consideration.  I have received portfolio pictures from a lot of my blog buddies and I have seen some remarkable faces! Yet, I would suggest if any of you are holding back due to not having professional portfolios please don't .  Even regular photographs will do for the initial selection process Smile

Also I have a lot of you'll have wanted to share with me some fresh concepts for my shows.   Though right now I am only concentrating on the three shows I have on hand, I would request that you continue writing because who knows in the future maybe we can have one of the concepts materialized.  A famous person had once told me that "If you are in this industry, you must love rejection!" Instead we must learn to take them positively and not to repeat mistakes.  The life of each individual in this field comprises of trials, tribulations but you never know that when you may just get lucky! There have been so many incidents when I have gone through this rejection process and testing period professionally, but it never got me down. Take the initiative and send me your pictures, comments and suggestions!

And again yes, it's a request please do not make this blog a battlefield! It is because of such comments I get distracted at times and miss out on the valuable comments given by the rest!

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Yours Truly,

Rajan Shahi

The Pillars Of My Life

Life has many foundations and pillars that come to create us as individuals!  There are many such pillars that have come together to make me who I am and the person this world knows as Rajan Shahi.  To start my foundation in this industry comes from a very special individual who provided me with a connection with this industry.  My connection to the film industry stems from my maternal grand father who was the veteran film actor Mr. P. Jairaj who had received the Dada Sahib Palke Award in 1982.  From a young age, I had been exposed to the world of cinema and had the opportunity to interact with leading technicians and personalities of the film world.  Serving as a link to my grandfather, the world of cinema provided the means for me to connect and interact with him.  And essentially the greatest legacy I inherited from my grandfather is the good will and respect in the industry which he had established which continues to carry on forward....

Providing me with the pillars of honesty and hard work my father, Shashi Pal Shahi, taught me to value the dignity of labor! I learned from him that there can never be a substitute to hard work!  Fro my mother Mrs. Deepa Shahi not only have I learned the importance of selfless devotion but it is from her that I gained my creative and aesthetic sense, which are so essential in this industry.  My sister Nomita and my niece Nainika always provided me with the much needed pillar of encouragement, which led me towards optimism and hope in life.  Lastly, I am here today due to my guardian angel, my elder brother Rahul Shahi.  Rahul at a very young age became a pioneer in business and Rahul I know you are always watching over me and you are my inspiration in life....

The motivational pillar in my life is my young daughter Ishika.  Providing me with optimism for the future, she is my motivation to keep moving forward and to accomplish as much as I can for her.

Phases & Transitions

The most important transition truly came in my career when I began assisting Mr. Ravi Rai in 1994.  My guru - a teacher in the true sense of the word - he is the man who provided me with the ingredients that gave me a strong foundation in this field!  Though I have yet to repay his guru dakshana, I will always be grateful to him for his teachings in not only the crafts of direction and production but most importantly he taught me the value of human emotions.  My schooling under Ravi Rai ji was a tremendous learning experience for me.  I was lucky to work as an associate director and even a production designer on popular shows of the time like Sailaab, Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai, Teacher etc.  Today looking back I realize that most of my skills that I have learned in my career go back to these days - the seeds of efficiency, multitasking, coordination and most importantly the craft of cinema were all sown in my days working under Mr. Ravi Rai.

In 1999, my career went through another transition as I directed my first independent show Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi.  Many shows followed after the first one but this story will always be special for me as it was my first independent work as a director.  I later on went on to directing many shows like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, Milli, Karneea Kareena and Virasaat and setting up as a series director shows like Saat Phere, Ghar Ki Laskhmi Betiyaan and Maayka.  Each show provided me with good experiences and memories and became a stepping-stone for me towards turning to production.

And then came the next phase in my life which has been a dream come true!  I set up my own banner DIRECTOR'S KUT PRODUCTION.  Vivek Behl for whom I had set up a number of shows as a director was instrumental in my becoming a producer. It was his vision and faith which was instrumental in setting up shows like Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. From managing the company to producing my own shows and getting involved in post production as well as marketing activities.  My greatest pride today is to be working with a team that is exceptional in its craft and each and every individual shares the same passion as we are tied by a common thread towards the same goals!  We have become a family and our synergy together is able to accomplish working with this close knit group of people who share the same vision.  There have been many ups and downs but the love and adulation our work has received has been very special.

And today I believe I am here because of the love and good wishes of those who have believed in me and due to the audiences who have appreciated my work and enjoyed the shows I create.  I hope to continue entertaining all of you in the near future....

Yours Truly,

Rajan Shahi
